Hello, this is just a fun little ode assignment that I completed in my Creative Writing class. Hope you enjoy:)
Ode to Fake Plants
Hidden among
the other plants,
the green leaves thriving,
swaying in the wind
dancing with their friends.
The dirt is dry,
unlike the others,
an impostor among
the living.
Forever immortal
like Demeter, though
nothing she created.
Formed of plastic,
granted immunity to
the elements:
rain,
wind,
fire.
Surviving whatever
is thrown at it.
The exterior,
strong,
sturdy,
like a shell.
The forever
green leaves,
the never wet dirt,
the continuously surviving
fake plant.
An impostor
in the world
of nature.
Outliving
the others.
Forever brilliant,
leaves shiny,
waxy in color.
No need to care,
no need to worry,
no need to remember,
about your plant.
It will forever stand,
apart from the rest
of the plants.
Using the wind,
blowing its leaves
as a disguise.
To hide its
abundant
fakeness.
Loved by all,
who buy,
sitting in windows,
backed by
morning light.
Receiving more
compliments than
those alive.
Like the light shining
in the darkness,
when you want
to care for a plant,
but you know
that you can’t,
there stands,
the fake plant,
a savior,
a survivor,
forever thriving,
an all around
great plant.
